"The Best"
by Ken Hose
It is the nature of the human race to compete, to
be better than our competitors, to improve our skills, to achieve.
To be the best is a desire within us all. The champion or the achiever is the
one who overcomes his opponents - succeeds despite the setbacks that will build
the determination to be the best.
In every field there are naturally gifted people. Without the will to win,
without the desire to be the best, natural gifts count for little. Without
constantly trying to improve that natural ability and continually to sharpen
your skills, the God-given gift is nothing. Without the commitment to be the
best, the possessor of the natural gift will be just another competitor -
another loser who will make excuses and think in the depths of their person - if
only...
See yourself as the best - the winner - the champion - and set your target. Make
that target achievable, hit it, and set the next one. For the best there is
always a new goal and the game is never over until the siren has sounded. The
best always puts in that extra effort. Just a little more. Even when it hurts.
Almost is never good enough. The best will analyse, theorise, never
rationalise, but sometimes you'll sympathise.
It is within us all to be the best. The best we can possibly be.
Doing the best for yourself is doing the best for those around you. It takes
desire, determination, dedication, and commitment - and the honesty within
yourself to hit the targets.
Winners have pride - pride in what they do and pride in themselves. They know
they gave it all they have and no one can ask for more. If, at the end of the
day, you can honestly say that you gave it your best shot, you will be The Best.
