Michael Jordan is considered by most experts to be the greatest player to ever play basketball, and probably the greatest professional athlete ever. He set the bar of excellence at such a high standard that his status is unlikely to be challenged. Michael came into the league after leading the North Carolina Tar Heels to the NCAA Championship in 1984. He played for Bobby Knight and won a Gold Medal in the 1984 Olympics. Next Michael was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft. When Michael came into the league, he came in with an explosion by averaging over 28 points and shooting over 50% in his very first year. From the outset of his career, Jordan possessed an unparalled quickness off the dribble, and his ability to dribble with either hand and finish in the lane with an explosion seperated him from the rest of the players in the league. As his career continued, the Bulls added to a bad team, put in the missing pieces, and with the addition of Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant, they were ready to dominate. And dominate they did, winning six NBA Titles before Michael retired in 1999. Jordan's list of awards include six NBA Championships, six Finals MVP's, five League MVP's, and countless individual awards such as League Scoring Titles. Jordan was that once in a lifetime athlete who appeared to have ice water in his veins when big games were on the line. Michael had no weaknesses - he was a great defensive stopper as well as the best offensive player of his time. To cap the list off, Jordan is the most popular player too, as he should be.
