Born out of a need for a bomber superior in performance to the B-17, the B-24 Liberator first went into action over the Pacific in 1942. When the D variant proved underarmed against Nazi fighters, Consolidated introduced the B-24J with a powered nose turret and extra armor. Eventually B-24 groups also saw action in the Pacific with the Australian Royal Air Force and with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.Acclaimed aircraft of the aces. The Consolidated B-17 Liberator was the Allies' most numerous bomber. This volume covers the exploits of the B-17 with the 90th Bomb Group in the South-West Pacific, the Seventh Air Force based in Australia and with the US Navy and marine Corps.
