TCP/IP addressing in IPv4 is based on a 32-bit addressing scheme. IPv6 will enable 128-bit addressing, thus increasing the number of potential addresses on the internet and avoiding the dire predictions that the internet will run out of addressing space in the near future. Going from 32-bit addressing to 128-bit addressing will entail problems for systems administrators who have not been tracking the papers of the Internet Engineering Task Force. This book is intended to explain the IPv6 addressing scheme, the RFCs, and thereby ease the transition.Offers an overview and introduction to the requirements and features of IP addressing within TCP/IP Version 6 (IPv6).This work offers an introduction to the addressing system defined in the release of TCP/IP, IPv6 and prepares system administrators to integrate IPv6 features into their Internet architecture.
